Welcome to today’s devotion! My name is Grace, and I’m here to remind you that God’s goodness and mercy are with us even when life gets hard. No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, His mercy is still available to you.
Our Bible reference today comes from Judges 6:1. The story begins by telling us how the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Because of their disobedience, God allowed them to be handed over to the Midianites for seven long years.
The Midianites made life unbearable for them. They destroyed their crops, stole their livestock, and brought constant oppression. The Israelites were living in fear, hiding in caves, and enduring great suffering.
In their desperation, they cried out to God for help. And God responded. He sent a prophet to remind them of His words and then began the process of delivering them through a man named Gideon.
A Lesson for Us Today
When I read this story, I see myself and so many of us in the Israelites’ situation. We make mistakes, go through hardships, or allow sin and guilt to weigh us down. Instead of running to God for help, we often hold ourselves hostage — punishing ourselves, living in pain, and believing the lie that God won’t forgive us.
But the truth is, God’s mercy is greater than our sin. Even after the Israelites worshiped idols and turned away from Him, God still forgave them and rescued them from their enemies. This shows us that His goodness is not based on our perfection but on His unfailing love.
Maybe you have done something and think, “This is too bad. God can’t forgive me.” Or maybe you’ve wronged someone and feel like you don’t deserve grace. That, my friend, is a lie from the enemy.
You do deserve forgiveness. You do deserve God’s love. No matter the sin, God is ready to cleanse you, restore you, and bring you back to peace and joy.
Your Step of Faith
Don’t stay in your “self-pity cave” like the Israelites hid from the Midianites. Cry out to God. He hears you. He will not turn away from a sincere heart seeking Him.
Prayer
Father, in the mighty name of Jesus, give us the courage to run to You for forgiveness whenever we fall short. Help us not to remain in our brokenness but to remember Your mercy. Remind us that You are our Deliverer — whether the trouble came from our own mistakes or from others. Thank You for never leaving us nor forsaking us. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
