God Can Change Your Situation (1 Samuel 1)

Welcome to today’s devotion. My name is Grace, and I am here to remind you that God is with you even when you are going through pain. You only need to remember this truth and call upon Him.

📖 Today’s guiding verse comes from 1 Samuel 1.

We are introduced to Hannah through her husband, Elkanah. Hannah had a co-wife, Peninnah. According to Scripture, Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none. This family feared and worshiped God because, year after year, Elkanah went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh, where the temple was.

Whenever Elkanah sacrificed, he gave a portion of meat to Peninnah and all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah, he gave a double portion because he loved her, even though the Lord had closed her womb.

💡 Reflection:
Today, I want to ask you: What is it that life has denied you? What do people label you with because of what you lack? Even though Elkanah loved Hannah, he could not give her children because she did not have any.

Many may have called Hannah “the barren woman” instead of her real name. But I am here to remind you: There is a God who changes situations and names. It doesn’t matter how long the problem has been there—when you cry out to God, He opens doors that seem impossible to open.

Elkanah chose to give Hannah a double portion because of his love, but ultimately it was God who could open her womb.

🙏 Lesson for Us Today:
May God give you someone who will love and comfort you during your difficulties, just as Elkanah did for Hannah. But above human comfort, may you always turn to God, who is the only one who can truly change your situation.

As the story continues, we will see whether Hannah stays under her husband’s comfort or chooses to cry out to the Lord for her closed womb to be opened.
