Welcome to today’s devotion. My name is Grace.
Sometimes in life, we are made to believe by others that what we are doing is wrong. Many people have failed to fight for their breakthrough simply because they listened to voices that tried to silence them. But today, I want to show you someone who refused to be quiet, pressed on in faith, and eventually received his miracle.
Our reference Scripture comes from Mark 10:46–52, the story of Blind Bartimaeus.
Bartimaeus: Called by His Condition, Not His Name
The story begins as Jesus was leaving Jericho. A blind man named Bartimaeus sat by the roadside begging, as he did daily. Notice how people didn’t even call him by his true name. Instead, he was identified by his situation: “blind Bartimaeus.”
Is there a label people call you that is not really who you are—yet you’ve begun to believe it?
Perhaps you say to yourself: “I am diabetic. I am a drunkard. I am a failure.” But you are not your condition.
I’m here to remind you that there is someone who can change your situation—if you refuse to let people silence you.
Refusing to Be Silenced
That day, Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was passing by. He wasted no time. He shouted:
“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
The Bible says many rebuked him and told him to be quiet. But Bartimaeus cried out even louder:
“Son of David, have mercy on me!”
And I ask you today: Who told you to keep quiet?
- Did someone say your case is hopeless?
- That your sickness cannot be healed because you’ve had it for too long?
- That your child cannot be saved because they are too deep in drugs?
- Or maybe shame whispers: “What will people think if they see me crying out to God?”
Jesus Stopped for Him
Verse 49 is powerful: “Jesus stopped and said, ‘Call him.’”
Imagine if Bartimaeus had remained silent. He would have missed his miracle because of people who did not matter in his healing. The same crowd that tried to silence him was now the crowd that had to bring him to Jesus.
When Bartimaeus finally stood before Jesus, the Lord asked: “What do you want me to do for you?”
Bartimaeus knew exactly what he wanted. He said: “I want to see.”
And immediately, his eyes were opened.
What Do You Want Jesus to Do for You Today?
Today, I challenge you: If Jesus were to pass by your way right now, what would you ask Him to do for you? Or have you already given up?
Don’t let doubt, shame, or people’s voices silence your faith. Cry out to Him until He answers.
Closing Prayer
Father, in the mighty name of Jesus, we ask You for courage to always come to You with our needs. Help us not to shy away or allow anyone to silence us. We receive faith, boldness, and breakthrough in Jesus’ name. Amen.
