Welcome to today’s devotion. My name is Grace, and I am here to remind you that God is with you, even when you are going through pain. All you need to do is remember His presence and call upon Him.
Today’s guiding verse comes from 1 Samuel 1. We meet Hannah, the wife of Elkanah, who also had another wife named Peninnah. According to Scripture, Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none. Still, they were a family that feared and worshiped God, for the Bible says, “Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh.”
Whenever Elkanah sacrificed, he gave portions of meat to Peninnah and all her sons and daughters, but to Hannah, he gave a double portion because he loved her, even though the Lord had closed her womb.
So today, I want to ask you: what is it that life has denied you? Like Hannah, maybe people even call you by your struggle instead of your name. Hannah may have been called “the barren woman,” but she did not let that define her. Instead, she poured out her heart to God in prayer.
I am here to remind you: there is a God who changes situations. He changes names and stories. It doesn’t matter how long your problem has lasted — when you let God be your shoulder to cry on, He opens doors that seem impossible to open.
Elkanah loved Hannah and comforted her with double portions, but he could not give her what only God could — children. Likewise, human love and support are beautiful, but only God can open the closed doors in your life.
May God send you someone who will stand by you in difficult times, just as Elkanah did for Hannah. And may you, like Hannah, choose to go beyond human comfort and cry out to God for your breakthrough.
Stay tuned for the next devotion as we continue to unveil what truly happened when Hannah prayed with faith.
🙏 Prayer: Father, in the mighty name of Jesus, we ask You to send us someone who will stand with us and comfort us during difficult times. And like Hannah, give us the strength to cry out to You until our breakthrough comes. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
